Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 23, 2026.

Thank you for visiting https://www.betterrate.com/ (the “Site”). Your visit to the Site is subject to this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy is mostly intended to inform our Site visitors, whom we do not need to personally identify when they visit the Site. Please understand that if you contact us using the Contact Us details in this Privacy Policy or under our separate Terms of Use, we could have more information about you than we have when you merely browse our Site, which does not require our knowing your name or how to contact you. We are highlighting this because we view our Site as collecting limited information about its visitors compared to many consumer-facing websites.

OVERVIEW

Site visitors’ personal information will be processed in accordance with this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy provides information regarding how we collect and process our Site visitors’ personal information, which is very limited in what we collect unless you specifically contact us and identify yourself to us. When we refer to “personal information” in this Privacy Policy, we mean information that directly or indirectly identifies you or can be used to identify you as an individual, but for most Site visitors we only have an IP address and their activities on the Site, which we do not use to identify persons specifically.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to information about a Site user a credit card issuer or business partner may collect about someone after they navigate away from our Site to a third-party website, whose separate privacy policies will apply in such event. Our advertising partners who advertise the Site and our services on our behalf across other third-party websites may recognize you on our Site based on other websites you have visited or other information they have about you, but they don’t tell us who specifically sees our ads (or identify you to us). Many websites collect a lot more information about their website visitors, so we wanted to explain how your visit to our Site may differ from visits to other sites.

We recommend that you periodically review the Privacy Policy for any updates. If you do not agree with any provision of this Privacy Policy, do not use the Site.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND HOW WE COLLECT IT

When you use or interact with the Site, we may collect personal information about you in two different ways: (1) information you provide to us and (2) information we collect automatically through technology. Either way, we need only limited personal information to offer our services via the Site.

Information You Provide to Us

Let’s start with what happens the least – Site users specifically contacting us: Unless you specifically seek to contact us, we generally do not need to know (or seek to know) who is using our Site to be able to provide our services via the Site. Site visitors do not need to provide information to us identifying who they are to use services via the Site.

Here's how we may know who you are: If you email or mail us under a Contact Us communication, we may have more information about you from that communication, as provided by you, which we would use to respond to your query to us.

Our business contacts of our business partners and service providers generally contact us outside of the Site via business email and phone communications. We use their names, titles, company, address, email address, and phone numbers to conduct our business with them. Should they need to reach us outside of their normal communication channels with us, please see Contact Us below.

Information Collected Automatically; Site Presence Data

We need to collect IP address and click path or activities of Site visitors when they are on the Site to provide our services via the Site; we cannot do so otherwise. We refer to this limited information as “Site Presence Data.” This Site Presence Data is considered personal information and could be used to identify you when paired with other information that we do not collect via the Site, but we do not need to identify users to provide our Services via the Site.

You may adjust your browser or device settings used to access the Site to limit transmission of your Site Presence Data, but if you do, you may not be able to access the full functionality and features available on the Site.

Our service providers may also automatically collect Site Presence Data regarding Site visitors through automatic data collection tools, including cookies, pixels, or other tracking technologies for marketing and to improve and tailor the Site experiences, but you may decline this optional use when you come to the Site (via the preference management banner you will see) or by clicking here. In addition to the Site Presence Data used for such optional use, our service providers may collect the URL of the last and next website you visit, your browser and operating system, your Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, how long you spend on the Site, and what pages you view here, which can similarly be declined by clicking here. If you do not decline this optional use of tracking technologies when you first land on the Site, you may decline it here, but your choice only applies going forward and is not retroactive to when you first landed on the Site.

If you decline this optional use on our Site and see an advertisement for the Site after you leave the Site, you can also contact the party serving the ad to limit ads they present to you, directly, or when you make an election by visiting DigitalAdvertisingAlliance.org if they participate in this Alliance.

You may see additional information regarding the cookies, pixels, or other tracking technologies used on this Site at the end of this Privacy Policy in its Addendum.

HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

To be able to make our credit card review and referral services available, we track who visits a card issuer’s website from a link on our Site based on the limited Site Presence Data we have about you. We are not credit card issuers ourselves and do not control any linked third-party websites, which have their own separate privacy practices you should review on the separate sites. We do not sell your data to websites you visit from links on our Site; it is up to you in your own personal discretion to determine whether to learn more about a particular card or apply for it, and if you choose to do so, you separately provide your personal information to the issuer as requested on their website and subject to their separate privacy practices.

We may also use personal information of Site visitors to communicate regarding your requests to us, to prevent fraud, to protect the security of our systems, to comply with applicable laws, to protect BetterRate (“Company,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) and the rights of our users and partners.

Company does have a presence on third-party social media sites. We sometimes engage regarding Company and its services on those third-party sites, but we do not collect data about users of those sites, followers of our accounts or others and carry it over to keep and use in our business operations, which are focused on the Site and our services from the Site.

WHEN WE DISCLOSE YOUR INFORMATION

Our third party service providers help us operate the Site and assist us to collect the Site Presence Data for our use as described in “Information Collected Automatically; Site Presence Data” above in this Privacy Policy. They have access to limited personal information from you via the Site for these purposes as described above.

Credit card issuers may let us know when someone on our Site applies for or obtains a card for them for our business information purposes; this communication would not identify a user by name and occurs by comparing IP addresses on our Site and their site.

We may disclose your personal information to third-party service providers to facilitate our services and perform functions on our behalf, such as, without limitation, providing technical, analytical, and hosting functions for the Site. We may also disclose your personal information with affiliates and advisors of Company to perform their functions in compliance with the privacy practices and policies of Company. Company reserves the right to transfer your information in the event of any liquidation, dissolution, or merger or the sale or transfer of our assets and/or business or any portion of our assets and/or business. We will not otherwise share your personal information, except as required or permitted by law; requested by governmental entity or law enforcement authority, subpoena, court order, or discovery request; or when we otherwise believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary or appropriate in connection with any activity that (potentially) violates the law or our internal policies and procedures (including relating to intellectual property, fraud, contracts, and privacy) or may expose us to liability.

Your information may be visible to your internet service provider, wireless carrier, employer or other persons supporting the device you use to access the Site.

DO NOT TRACK; THIRD-PARTY TRACKING

As described above under “Information Collected Automatically; Site Presence Data,” we do track on the Site to collect the limited Site Presence Data, without which we cannot offer our services. We also use the Site Presence Data to see if a Site user visits a website for a card issuer whose card is reviewed on the Site. For this reason, we are unable to honor or respond to Do Not Track (“DNT”) signals directed to the Site.

For information regarding DNT and how to enable this setting, if available, on your devices please see https://allaboutdnt.com.Some third-party sites do keep track of your browsing activities when they serve you content, which enables them to tailor what they present to you. If you are visiting such sites, your browser allows you to set the DNT signal so that third parties (particularly advertisers) know you do not want to be tracked. You may consult the help pages of your browser to learn how to set your preferences so that websites do not track you.

PROTECTION OF INFORMATION

We employ reasonable measures to secure our business information and systems, which include the Site and personal information; however, “perfect security” does not exist on the Internet, and there is always the risk that unauthorized persons may access or use your personal information. We will not be responsible or liable for any damages, losses, or causes of action arising out of or in connection with the disclosure of your personal information. You use the Site and otherwise send us such information if you contact us directly at your own risk.

YOUR CHOICES

We are not able to provide our services via the Site without collecting the limited Site Presence Data as described throughout this Privacy Policy.

You may decline optional use of tracking technologies when you first land on the Site, or by now clicking here, but your choice only applies going forward and is not retroactive to when you first landed on the Site. This optional tracking is described above under “Information Collected Automatically: Site Presence Data.” We also provide more information regarding such technologies in the Addendum to this Privacy Policy.
